HandySpeech stands out as the only handwriting-to-speech application for iOS devices, specifically designed to offer individuals with speech and hearing disabilities a convenient conversational tool. Its unique capability of translating handwritten text into spoken language makes this application not only practical but also more intuitive than traditional keyboard-based solutions.

The application's portability allows users to carry it anywhere on mobile devices. HandySpeech adapts to its user by remembering frequently used phrases and learning individual handwriting styles, whether in cursive, print, or mixed formats. Furthermore, it includes a comprehensive dictionary for less common words. It boasts impressive voice generation capabilities, offering natural-sounding male and female voices in a total of 12 languages.

HandySpeech provides significant support for individuals facing various speech and language challenges, including those affected by head and neck cancer, Muscular Dystrophy, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), autism spectrum disorders, stroke or brain injuries, and post-operative voice complications. It serves as a quick learning tool for individuals with vocal cord impairments due to surgery, paralysis, or vocal nodules.

Additionally, the application features a speech recognition module powered by Nuance, allowing two-way communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing users when conversing with those who can hear.

The creation of HandySpeech can be traced back to Eric Zeiberg, a twelve-year-old boy inspired by his sister's struggles with speech disabilities. Eric stated, “I invented HandySpeech to give a voice to people who find it difficult to or are unable to speak. This application is dedicated to those who courageously strive every day to overcome their disabilities.”
